Local hero is lauded for caring
The Lowvelder Hero of the Month, brought to you by West Pack Lifestyle, gives much-deserved credit to a local unsung Lowveld hero. For October, Lowvelders nominated Christell Viljoen as the #LocalHero.
Viljoen, who started Growing Hope care for mothers and babies in July 2018, said that she started the charity when a young underprivileged mother needed a pram for her baby.
Viljoen realised that there was a need for support in this regard. According to Viljoen, since its inception, Growing Hope has helped around 62 babies with items such as food, clothing, prams, cots and many other needs.

Viljoen identified another need among families in Barberton, thus she started another division of Growing Hope, called Food Hope, and with the help of donations has been able to feed more than 100 people in Barberton alone.
It also assists with giving those in need furniture such as beds, stoves and chairs. Viljoen said the charity is her passion and she loves helping others, however, it depends on donations.

“I am very honoured to win and this really means a lot to me. Thank you to West Pack for the prize,” Viljoen said.
