Toyota win the Vryburg 400 with the help of local drivers
The Vryburg 400, the second-last round of the 2021 South African Cross-Country Series (SACCS) saw Toyota Racing SA's brothers Johan and Werner Horn fly the flag for Toyota, by not only winning the qualifying race, but also the main event for the T-class.
The defending champions found themselves on the back foot after failing to score points during the previous two rounds of the race, but redeemed themselves with a resounding victory in the North West. In their class, the Horn brothers were titled the champions and ended up in sixth place overall.
The Malalane Toyota brothers may not win the title in 2021, but they are certainly making themselves count.

Toyota Gazoo Racing SA’s Henk Lategan and co-driver Brett Cummings scored maximum points in the FIA class, extending their lead at the top of the championship standings. The Toyota Hilux crew recorded their second victory of the year, beating Ford’s Lance Woolridge by four seconds after a close battle that played out of both race loops of 180km each.

“It was a really tight race today,” said Lategan after reaching the designated service point outside Vryburg after the race.
In the end, the Toyota Gazoo Racing crew reported a clean run, other than the two punctures in the second loop. The Class FIA and Class T Toyota Hilux did not miss a beat, and the drivers were overjoyed to have added to their overall points lead with just one round to go.

“Overall, it was an excellent weekend for Toyota Gazoo Racing SA and Toyota overall,” said the team principal, Glyn Hall, after the race.
“The Lowveld and the Onderberg represented their skills on an excellent level at Vryburg. We are proud to be part of Toyota and we look forward to the final race,” said Werner.

Eben Basson of Komatipoort also participated in the weekend as part of the Red-Lined Motorsport Isuzu team. He and his navigator, Gerhard Schutte, ended up in 10th place overall.
The final round of the 2021 SACCS is set for Saturday November 20, in the area surrounding the Free State town of Parys.
