Educational display presents kids with opportunity to learn about reptiles

A pop-up snake and reptile park was set up between September 24 and October 9.

Locals and visitors had the opportunity to bring their children to learn about and experience the reptiles up close.

Snake courses were provided, and many took the opportunity to educate themselves about snakes. Juan’s Reptile Rescue Unit, Juan de Beer, Jacques Smith and Amber Shepstone organised the pop-up park with the goal that children should learn to be aware but not afraid of these cold-blooded creatures.

The Reptile Rescue Unit still kept to strict Covid regulations, but made it possible for all to enjoy the most out of it. Merchandise and posters were available for the children to take home as a memento.

“We at the rescue unit have a passion and deep appreciation for snakes. We know that many do not actually know about them, and have the mind-set of killing them on sight. We want to get rid of that type of thinking for good, and we know that the youth are the people who need to be taught otherwise,” said De Beer.
