Warriors on Wheels blesses Hazyview residents

The Meyer Beukes Warriors on Wheels Foundation made a recent trip to Hazyview to deliver six wheelchairs to children with disabilities.

The Meyer Beukes Warriors on Wheels Foundation made a recent trip to the rural settlements surrounding Hazyview to deliver six wheelchairs to underprivileged children with disabilities.

For one warriors, it was the very first wheelchair in 12 years. Hope Mhlongo is a non-verbal warrior, but the gratitude she reflected through her eyes and smiles was so rewarding, said the managing director of the foundation, Kylah Beukes.

Sanele Matume received the second delivery. He lost his mother in recent months and is now being taken care of by his aunt.

“This is a monumental task as he is disabled, non-verbal and blind,” said Beukes.

“Our third visit was emotionally taxing. Warrior Queen was not feeling well and we suspect she may have had a seizure prior to our visit. Her new wheelchair will provide her with correct postural support and hopefully make life a little easier for her and her carers.

“Our fourth stop was Bonga Mona, who we assisted with a wheelchair five years ago, and it was time for a replacement. His confidence and self-esteem was immediately lifted in his new wheels.

“Our fifth stop was Warrior Nokuthula Maphanga, who was so excited to get off the floor and into her new wheels!

“Our sixth and final stop was Warrior Sharon Dube. Sharon, also non-verbal, came crawling towards the wheelchair with much excitement. She took to it rather quickly and even began testing gentle movements of pushing herself backwards and forward. The family was very grateful for the support.

“To our loyal sponsor, Giving Back 2 Our Community, we cannot express how grateful we are for the continued support and thank you enough for making this day possible.

“Thank you for blessing these six homes. Thank you for showing that it is possible to make a difference.”

Warriors on Wheels received donations from various other sponsors to make this delivery of wheelchairs and household products possible, for which the organisation was endlessly grateful.
