Lowveld High honours its top achievers

Lowveld High learners were awarded for excelling in various areas including sport, arts and academics.

Lowveld High School recently honoured the best of the best for the past academic year.  All awards go to learners who have excelled in various areas, including sport, arts and academics.

The sportswoman of the year award went to Laheri Nkosi.  “She is an excellent rugby player and was selected for the senior Pumas Ladies team even though she was still in school and many years younger than her teammates,” said the school.

Sipho Mnisi and Cyril-Junior Sagwati Mathebula both received the English writing award with a certificate and full colours.

Hlulani Mdluli received the award for the most versatile student in the arts with a certificate, trophy and full colours.

Hlulani participated in the choir, did ballroom dancing and one-act plays, and sang at the eisteddfod.  His fellow choir members, Nosipho Tsela and Prosperity Magagula, were awarded best choir girl and boy respectively. Both of them have been in the choir since grade eight and showed admirable dedication.

Moving on to academics, Prosperity was also the top academic achiever for the year and earned the dux scholar award.

Cyril-Junior Mathebula.

The David Gray Award, which goes to the learner who best exemplifies the ethos of the school, went to Cyril-Junior.

“He shows initiative and integrity and is not intimidated into backing down from his opinion and moral standing. He is a true reflection of the values of Lowveld High, namely respect, honesty, accountability, responsibility and excellence. He is an outstanding role model to learners of this school.”

Lastly, receiving his third award, Prosperity was awarded the principal’s award of meritorious service. This award is made to the learner who has made the greatest contribution in terms of meritorious service to the school.

“He has selflessly spent endless hours working over weekends and holidays in the marketing department at school. In fact, Lowveld High has become his ‘home away from home’ and the school is all the richer for having him as a learner.”
