Legendary boxing promoter Thinus Strydom and former Springbok wing Breyton Paulse became the first inductees at the inaugural Nkomazi Kruger Hall of Fame Awards at the Nkomazi Kruger Lodge & Spa on Wednesday evening, November 17.

The awards were the brainchild of Jaco van der Berg, the president of the Nkomazi Group and founder of the Nkomazi Kruger Hall of Fame Museum.

Strydom was named president of the awards that will be conducted annually at the Nkomazi Kruger Lodge & Spa.

“I am grateful to Jaco to make me part of this exciting project as we share the same love and passion for sport and people who rose out of the toughest situations. This museum will soon be an influential landmark of this country,” said Strydom.

Paulse was taken by surprise with the unexpected award, as he thought he was in for a vacation break at the lodge when Van der Berg invited him. Paulse and his friends came to Malalane by invite to play golf at Leopard Creek Country Club.

“It is astonishing to be honoured at the Hall of Fame Museum, which is on the other side of the country for me. I wanted to show my friends the Lowveld and its beauty and ended up being the first of many who will be part of the museum,” he said.

The Nkomazi Kruger Hall of Fame Museum will not only consist of people who made an unforgettable mark in the sporting world, but also to the legendary people who made an impact with their overall achievements of any kind.

“The awards will not only go to sportspeople, but to anyone who has achieved in life, especially persons who excelled against all odds,” said Van der Berg.
