White River community to give back

A White River community clean-up called Give Back Black Friday will take place on Friday, November 26, organised by The Fitness Studio and TPO8000.

In a community effort to keep the town clean, the Power of 8000 (TPO8000) and local fitness centre, The Fitness Studio, are hosting a clean-up of the town, called Give Back Black Friday.

Shonah Roberts Voigt of The Fitness Studio said the event will be held on November 26.

TPO8000, which works with the White River Ratepayers Association, recently finished clearing up Ronnie Bester Park, spending over R50 000 on the effort.

The community action group came into being when a number of local residents who were increasingly dismayed by the town’s deterioration decided to take action. It has completed a number of projects to the benefit of the community and White River.

Voigt said everyone is welcome to join the clean-up and that people should meet at The Fitness Studio at 46 Kiaat Street at 16:00 on Friday. The clean-up will go on until 18:00.

“We encourage those who join to bring black bags, braai tongs, sharp long sticks and gloves.

“TPO8000’s Freddy Robertson has arranged security and a bakkie to help remove the bags along the way. We can start at the studio and head towards William Lynn Street. Please support us and do this for our beautiful town,” she said.

Robertson has also encouraged other businesses in the area to get involved in clean-ups in the area, saying that TOP8000 would support these initiatives.

Local businesses may contact TOP8000’s founder Pierre du Preez on 082 292 8764.
