This hero goes above and beyond
The Lowvelder Hero of the Month, brought to you by West Pack Lifestyle, gives much deserved credit to local, unsung Lowveld heroes.
For December, Lowvelders nominated Kylah Beukes the #LocalHero.
Beukes started her journey in charity work in 2011 when her firstborn son was born with spina bifida and hydrocephalus. Through this journey her eyes were opened to an overwhelming need of under- privileged families with disabled children.
When her son was two and a half years old, Beukes took the initiative to have a mini wheelchair built for him. This changed his life significantly. When Beukes saw the difference it made to his life she started the Meyer Beukes Warriors on Wheels Foundation which was registered as an NPO in 2013.

The organisation changes lives, one wheelchair at a time. It provides less fortunate disabled children with the devices they need to improve their lives, encourages and educates the parents or caregivers on their child’s disability, and provides children with disabilities a chance to overcome their daily challenges.
When asked what it means for her to be nominated Beukes said, “I am humbled and it’s a wonderful gesture, but the glory goes to the Lord. Through ashes the Lord has brought beauty and I am just very grateful to be able to play my part in the bigger picture”.
