The trial of the man accused of the 2019 death of Letisia Niemann outside Mustangs - The Dancing Place, has been postponed to January 28, 2022.

The accused, Johan Louwrens of Steelpoort, appeared in the Nelspruit District Court on Wednesday December 8 for the start of the trial.

The Mpumalanga NPA’s spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa, said the defence had not been ready to proceed. She said all the parties involved had agreed that the matter be postponed for trial.

According to a previous article by Lowvelder on the incident, a friend of the couple, Jacques Kotze, said a group of friends had been having a braai at the Niemanns’ house on Saturday September 28, 2019.

He said the couple had lived on the same premises as their company, Quality Sandblasting and Powder Coating, located right next to the bar.

Afterwards the group had a drink at Mustangs, where the Great Nelspruit Post Pub Crawl had been taking place.

Niemann was walking home with her husband, Eben (44), when she was hit by a bakkie. The incident occurred outside the entrance to Mustangs at 23:00.

The vehicle sped off. Hours later, she died of her injuries in hospital.

Louwrens handed himself over to the police two days afterwards.
