Lowveld community and law enforcement join hands to patrol Nelspruit
Lowveld community members took to the streets of the city last Wednesday to partake in community patrols organised by Afriforum Nelspruit's safety branch.
Nelspruit police, various local security companies, emergency services and community volunteers gathered with members of Afriforum Nelspruit at Crossing Shopping Centre on the evening to be briefed on the night’s plans.
Afriforum set up a branded gazebo at the centre where boerewors rolls were made and cold drinks handed out for all of those participating in the patrols.

Afriforum Nelspruit’s safety chairperson, Devon McCullough, said the patrols were part of a provincial mass movement of Afriforum, with 16 other groups also participating in patrols in various towns across Mpumalanga on the same night.

He said the aim of the patrols was to start of the holiday season with awareness as well as to show appreciation and support for police and first responders in the Lowveld.
“Patrollers mostly drove through residential areas as a show of force and then broke up into groups throughout the night to cover different areas of the city,” said McCullough.
“It was a quiet evening. We assisted with an accident on the R40 and continued with patrols into the early hours of the morning,” he said.
He thanked everyone who volunteered for the patrols.
