Taxi driver still missing after Steelpoort floods

The Moraba family of Bothashoek pleaded with the Limpopo government to continue with the search of their beloved brother.

STEELPOORT – It looks like the families of those who were swept away by the floods might spend Christmas without their loved ones.

The Limpopo SAPS confirmed on Monday that the search and rescue mission continued at the Dwars River.
The floods occurred on December 7. Two cars, a Renault Kwid and a Toyota Quantum, were swept away by the floods. The damaged cars were recovered on the riverbank.

The Renault Kwid was also swept off by floods.

Among those who are believed to have been swept away is taxi driver Godfrey Moraba (30).

Moraba’s Toyota Quantum was captured on video being swept away by the floods.

The Moraba family of Bothashoek pleaded with the Limpopo government to continue with the search of their beloved brother.

  1. “We want the body so that we can have closure. If he is dead, we will bury him with dignity and his spirit will rest in peace. I am an African man and I am scared if we don’t find his remains, there won’t be peace and harmony in the family,” said his father, Khupa Moraba

Steelburger/Lydenburg News learned that the Moraba family had also lost their grandmother Sophie Moraba (78).The gogo passed away after hearing of her grandson’s disappearance.

Since the search and rescue commenced on December 8, only the body of Daisy Rapholo has been recovered.
She was discovered on December 9.

Sgt Kevin Mphahlele of Sekhukhune SAPS indicated that the search for the missing people continues.
