What is needed when entering Mozambique?

Mozambique is visited by many South Africans during the festive season, but do not know the procedures and requirements that need to be followed when entering the country.

Many travellers from the Lowveld and the rest of the country spend their festive season in Mozambique, but not everyone has the experience or knowledge of the requirements needed to enter the country.

The KLCBT provided information on its website regarding what exactly is required when crossing the Lebombo or Kosi Bay border posts.

Travellers arriving in Mozambique will be required to provide proof of negative polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based Covid-19 test results, administered in their country of origin and not older than 72 hours.

Children up to age 11 are exempt from this requirement. All persons who test positive for Covid-19 or have been directly exposed to a positive case of Covid-19 must quarantine for 14 days.

When returning from Mozambique, a negative rapid Covid test is required, which can be done at medical facilities in Mozambique or at the border.

According to the KLCBT, a test costs R300. The Mozambican government implemented lockdown regulations from October to December.

Mandatory curfew in Maputo, provincial capitals, municipalities and towns throughout the country, is from midnight to 04:00.
According to Linda Grimbeek,

COO of the KLCBT, all previously closed beaches in Mozambique have been reopened to the public as of December 21.
