Matrics of academy’s Class of 2021 honoured

Fifteen pupils who had passed matric, were handed goodies that included tablets, notepads, water bottles, headphones as well as stationery.

BURGERSFORT – The South African financial services company, Ubank, honoured the matriculants of 2021 at Mafadi Independent Academy recently.

The celebratory session was attended by the directors of the school, the Driekop circuit manager, Lazarus Phasha, the management of Ubank, the matrics of 2021 and the current matric learners.

Fifteen pupils who had passed matric, were handed goodies that included tablets, notepads, water bottles, headphones as well as stationery.

This was part of the bank’s Back to School campaign that aims to prepare the learners for tertiary life.

“One of the pillars supporting Ubank’s business strategy is community development. Investing in the communities
in which we operate forms a critical part of how we do business and our constant effort has been to help uplift the lives not only of our customers, but also of their families,” said Mpho Magoro of Ubank Burgersfort.

Phasha applauded Mafadi for its improvements in the matric results. “Mafadi had a 71% pass rate with the
2020 matric results. This year they achieved 79%. This shows the school is improving and is going in the right
direction. To the Class of 2021, you are now heading to various tertiary institutions. You need to work like
slaves in order to live like kings.”

The head of community investment and initiatives at the bank, Nono Bam, said, “Ubank has always believed in
maintaining the relationships that were started, and this was the reason why the team focused on Mafadi as one of the schools that benefited from our Back to School campaign.”

She said they have an excellent relationship with the school. Mafadi’s director, BM Mpuru, thanked
the school management, parents and Ubank for their support.

“It’s not for the first time Ubank has donated to us. We are grateful and we will also return the favour by doing business with them.”
