A 60-year-old is due to appear in court for allegedly torching the provincial ANC offices.

A 60-year-old man was arrested in Masoyi by the police in connection with an incident in which ANC offices had been set alight today, March 17.

“Unfortunately a liaison officer was not available at that time. He became furious and reportedly took out a two-litre bottle filled with petrol from his bag. He poured petrol all over offices, set them alight and walked away,” Mohlala said.
The authorities were alerted about the incident and the fire was extinguished. Three offices were reportedly damaged by the fire, however, no one was reportedly injured in this particular incident. The estimated damage is unknown at this stage.

The provincial ANC convener, Lindiwe Ntshalintshali, said the man is known to staff as he frequents the offices.
“He is well known by employees and volunteers at the office. He is a former member of the MK and the SANDF. Last week he came and demanded to see the leadership about domestic problems. His challenges at home have nothing to do with the ANC, but he felt he should come and raise them with the organisation,” she said.
Ntshalintshali said the incident would not affect the plans for the provincial elective conference from going forward. The conference will be held from April 1 to 3. The suspect is due to appear in court tomorrow, March 18.
