Road upgrades still not at a speed to make a significant difference over the Easter weekend

Accidents and vehicle damage are increasing repairs to the so-called “triangle of roads”: Lydenburg, Burgersfort, Steelpoort, Dullstroomand Ohrigstad.

The premier of Mpumalanga, Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane announced an R9bn increase in provincial road repair during her State of the Province Address (Sopa).

Jane Sithole, the DA’s provincial leader, said it was a pity the premier did not make it clear which roads are targeted. The Ohrigstad Road (R36) and the Burgersfort Road (R37) are currently
under construction and benefiting from Sanral upgrades.
The work needed to be done includes general road maintenance, such as potholes and road surface
repairs, grass cutting and fixing of, stormwater drain.
