Mpumalanga department wishes bus accident victims a speedy recovery

No serious injuries were reported following a bus accident that occurred on Friday morning.

The Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport learned with shock about a Buscor bus accident that happened on the morning of May 27.

“The accident occurred on the R40 between Klipkopjes Dam and the Swartfontein turn-off,” the department said.

“The bus had been ferrying 124 kids from Metro Private College in Hazyview towards White River when the accident took place.”

Moeti Mmusi, the spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, said the children’s injuries range from minor to moderate and that no fatalities had been reported. The children were treated at various hospitals around Mbombela.

In its statement, public works said the bus driver indicated that he was attempting to avoid a crash with another unknown vehicle when he lost control.

“The bus veered off the road and started overturning.”

MEC Mohita Latchminarain wished all the injured a speedy recovery. She urged all motorists to obey the rules of the road at all times in order to curb such accidents.
