Ex-cop convicted of killing his wife’s matter postponed again in Mpumalanga High Court

Convicted ex-cop Mugiyo Ulrich Mabunda remains in custody.

The matter of the convicted ex-cop Mugiyo Ulrich Mabunda was heard in the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court on Friday August 12.

Mugiyo was convicted for the premeditated murder of his wife, Tebogo Mabunda. He shot and killed Tebogo outside their house in Stonehenge, Mbombela, in May 2020. He drew a gun on her and shot her before shooting himself.

Mugiyo did not appear in court for the judgement in June 2022. Judge Cassim Moosa proceeded with the matter nevertheless and convicted him in his absence. Afterwards, the matter was postponed for sentencing.

The Mpumalanga National Prosecuting Authority’s spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa, said the matter was postponed to September 20 in the same court for the probation officer’s report.

On Saturday August 13, Bella’s Athletic Club paid a special tribute to Tebogo Mabunda’s family during their inaugural GBV Race. Tebogo was a member of the club. The club stands outside the high court in support of her family every time Mugiyo appears. It awarded Tebogo’s family race medals as a token of condolences.
