Music from the movies to be hosted at Penryn Chapel
Lowvelders are in for a classical movie music treat at Penryn Chapel on October 16.
The Lowveld Community Orchestra under direction of Lizanne Barnard showed their steel in the musical Crux earlier this year.
For their next concert, music from the movies is on the menu at the Penryn Chapel. Guest artists who will join the orchestra are Rhona van Niekerk (mezzo-soprano), Thembile Mahlangu (soprano), Ethan and Kalysta Hinrichsen (pianists), and Cassandra Mönnig will also be conducting two of the pieces.
From a vast reservoir of possibilities, 12 pieces have been chosen and will be performed as a full orchestra, smaller ensembles and individual solos.

This concert can be enjoyed by the whole family and includes the well-loved melodies from movies such as Forrest Gump, Pirates of the Caribbean, Ladies in Lavender, Kung Fu Panda and many more.
Lizanne Barnard asked, “When last did you experience the thrill of seeing and hearing orchestral instruments up close? This is a great opportunity to show your little ones what a cello, trumpet or an oboe looks and sounds like.
“Join us for an afternoon of beautiful music on October 16! Popcorn is on the house and wine by the glass will be for sale.”
Tickets are R120 for adults, R100 for pensioners and R80 for children and can be bought on Quicket. The concert will start at 14:00.
