Mpumalanga Rhinos vow to bat for the rhinos

The team have pledged their support for Care for Wild

The Rhinos met some rhinos when the Mpumalanga cricket team visited Care for Wild Sanctuary on Friday.

The cricket team got to feed the orphaned rhinos and tour the facility, after which they announced they would be wearing the Care for Wild logo on their one-day kit.

The Care for Wild Care founder and CEO, Petronel Nieuwoudt, gave a short history and explained the mission statement of the organisation, Mpumalanga Rhinos.

The team’s wicketkeeper/batsman, Rubin Hermann, was moved by the experience of being so close to the endangered species and hearing the stories of Care for Wild’s successes.

It was truly an eye-opening experience, witnessing the amazing work Care for Wild is doing to care for, aid in the rehabilitation and rewild rhinos orphaned as the result of poaching.

“It was saddening to see the harsh reality of the damage caused by poaching first-hand. But to see people like Petronel and an organisation like Care for Wild dedicating their lives to make a change is truly inspiring.

“Our eyes were opened to the importance of doing our own little bit to help in any possible capacity. That is why we will be wearing the Care for Wild logo with pride on our shirts for the duration of the CSA One-Day Competition,” said Hermann.
