Suspected killer of Nelspruit deputy sheriff in court

The suspect handed himself over to the police on Tuesday afternoon, October 25.

The suspected killer of Nelspruit deputy sheriff Michelle Jones appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court yesterday, October 26.

Hendry Dlamini (32) is accused of shooting both Jones and her partner Julio Baumgat in Nelsville on Thursday night, October 20.

The couple, who have been together since high school, were rushed to a nearby hospital, where Jones was pronounced dead.

Baumgat had sustained six gunshot wounds to his right arm and was critically injured.

It is alleged that Dlamini was disgruntled with the couple over a house they had recently purchased in the area.

Dlamini had handed himself over to the Nelspruit police on Tuesday October 25.

The Mpumalanga National Prosecuting Authority’s spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa, confirmed that Dlamini was expected to make his next court appearance on November 1 for a formal bail application. He has been remanded in custody.
