Suspect to appear in KaBokweni court for dealing in rhino horns

A man set to appear in court is allegedly involved with poaching-related crimes, for which other suspects have already been arrested in both Mpumalanga and Limpopo.

A 47-year-old man is due to appear in the KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court today, February 7, after he was arrested by members of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’s (DPCI) wildlife trafficking department, in collaboration with the Mpumalanga DPCI.

He was linked through DNA of some rhino horns found during a search and seizure operation at his Johannesburg home during a take-down operation of Project Blood Orange on December 2.

The DNA samples were sent to the laboratory, where test results linked him positively to the crime scene. A case docket was opened and a warrant of arrest was issued against him. He handed himself over to the DPCI members and was charged with dealing in rhino horns.

According to the Hawks, it is alleged that the accused forms part of the syndicates in the Kruger National Park rhino poaching saga.

The accused allegedly conspired with two other families who were arrested in Mpumalanga and Limpopo and released on bail.
