Heavy rain in the Lowveld to continue

Rain started falling in the early morning of Wednesday February 8.

The South African Weather Service issued a level 5 warning for disruptive rain on the afternoon of Wednesday February 8.

This follows after the service published a media statement on Monday February 6, indicating that the Lowveld can expect persistent rainfall.

According to the newest release, the rain showers will be intermittent but light in the western half of Mpumalanga, but the eastern parts of the province, especially the escarpment and Lowveld, will experience heavier falls during the evening.

“Downpours will continue into Friday morning,” the service said.

It also warned against possible floods due to the high rainfall and advised people to stay indoors as far as possible, as well as off the roads.

The rainfall is expected to drop in intensity late on Friday.
