Heavy rain and rockfall cause parts of N4 to close
TRAC said the Schoemanskloof is completely inaccessible due to rockfall and advised motorists to avoid the N4.
TRAC, the concessionaire of the N4, has urged motorists to avoid travelling on the N4 as much as possible due to rockfall in the Schoemanskloof and Elands Valley.
It is believed that the incident occurred around midnight on Saturday, February 11, as a result of the persisting heavy rain.
According to TRAC’s spokesperson, Solange Soares, Schoemanskloof is completely inaccessible, while only the westbound lane is open between the Waterval Boven intersection and the tunnel.

“Motorists are advised to avoid travelling between Mbombela and Machadodorp until further notice,” said Soares. She added that if it is unavoidable, people should expect heavy delays in the Elands Valley.
Meanwhile, the R40 between Hazyview and White River has been partially opened, according to Moeti Mmusi, the spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison.
