Visuals of flood-damaged R536 between Sabie and Hazyview
A recent video taken by a motorist shows the majority of the road has been washed away.

The R536 between Hazyview and Sabie has been permanently closed due to the collapse of a section of road about 20km out of Hazyview.
The road first started collapsing on February 14 due to the ongoing downpours. By Sunday February 19, a much larger portion of the road had gone.
The road has been closed with chevron boards from both the Hazyview and Sabie sides, and a further set of ‘closed’ signs has been placed 500m from the collapse.
Motorists with light vehicles had been driving on the road despite the warnings from disaster management. In the video taken today, March 11, by a motorist, it can be seen that the majority of the road has been washed away.
Trees that were used to block the road have been removed, and a number of cars are still using the road. Light vehicles can pass easily, but heavy cars will not pass through.
The spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Moeti Mmusi, said community members are warned not to interfere with temporary road signs, especially on routes that are completely closed.
“The damage caused on some of these routes has resulted in their total closure. As part of warning motorists, temporary road closure signs were erected,” he said.
