Dr Enos Mabuza’s robots light up at last in Mbombela
Residents in the area welcomed the switching off the traffic after they have been off for more than three years.

Motorists are rejoicing as the traffic lights at the intersection of Dr Enos Mabuza and Johanna drives are finally operational after more than three years.
Residents in the area welcomed this, as some had believed the lights would never work again, after it had been reported that they were supposed to have been switched on in December.
Some of the residents thanked Lowvelder for its persistence in reporting on the matter, and believed it had had a positive impact on the outcome.
The City of Mbombela’s spokesperson, Joseph Ngala, said it was part of their plan to electrify the traffic lights and ensure they work again.

“The municipality has done its part and promised it will repair them. We still urge motorists to drive with caution when approaching the traffic lights, since some still need to familiarise themselves with the lights being on again.
“It was always part of the municipality’s responsibility to repair them since we started the various upgrading projects, and we were mandated to finish what we have started. I hope the community will also safeguard them, since they are there to service them,” Ngala said.

The traffic lights had been switched off during the widening of the road section between the Enos Mabuza/Johanna drives intersection and the R40 in 2020.
The project is now 99% finished.
