Sanral to host Mbombela motorcycle safety training ahead of Easter holidays

Sanral is planning a safety training for motorcyclists at the Mbombela Stadium's parking lot on Saturday morning, March 25.

Sanral has invited all Mbombela motorcyclists to attend motorcycle safety awareness training on Saturday morning, March 25, to promote road safety ahead of the Easter holidays.

In a statement by Sanral, it said an awareness event will be taking place, starting from Caltex Riverside on the R40 and proceeding to Mbombela Stadium’s parking lot, in the form of a mass bike ride.It will start at 07:00.

“Under the theme ‘Motorcyclists matter on our roads’, Sanral encourages road safety awareness among all road users, especially motorcyclists,” said the statement.

“Motorcyclists, much like motorists, are prone to road fatalities and are at more risk on the roads than motorists. Most road safety awareness messages are targeted at motor vehicles. There is a gap in the awareness of motorcyclist safety.”

As a custodian of road safety, Sanral said it has the mandate to ensure that the road safety message is heard and that more safety education and awareness are promoted nationally.

The statement estimates that about 100 bikers will participate in the mass ride, starting at the Caltex and passing through Mbombela’s city centre on their way to the Mbombela Stadium.

This will be followed by motorcycle safety training to educate motorcyclists about the do’s and don’ts of riding on the road.

These include:
• Informing motorcyclists about defensive riding techniques on the road.
• Educating motorcyclists about the importance of regular road safety training.
• Educating motorcyclists about the responsible operation of a motorcycle on the road.
• Motivating all motorcyclists to always wear proper riding gear on the road.
• Encouraging road users to be on the lookout for motorcyclists on the road.
