Double murder leads to manhunt in Limpopo

Upon arrival, the police forced entry and found a body of the teenager in a decomposed state and a murder case was opened at Driekop SAPS.

The Limpopo police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, ordered an immediate manhunt for the unknown suspects, following the discovery of a decomposed body of a 13-year-old girl, Kabelo Malatji, inside the house of a 39- year-old man who was in turn stoned to death by community members at the village on March 28.

“The girl reportedly left home o March 24, intending to attend extra classes at a nearby school, but never returned home. An immediate search for her was conducted at relatives and surrounding villages, without success,” said the Limpopo police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafelo Mojapelo.

He said, “On Monday March 27, the decomposing body of Kabelo was reportedly found inside the house of the man, identified as Calvin Mohlala, after an unpleasant odour was detected by neighbours who immediately informed the police.

“Upon arrival, the police forced entry and found a body of the teenager in a decomposed state and a murder case was opened at Driekop SAPS.”
Mojapelo said the members of the community mobilised to locate the man in whose house the body was found. He was subsequently found while hiding in the same village and was stoned to death on the Tuesday at about 19:00.

“Police were called and on arrival at the scene, found the victim with severe wounds. He was later declared dead by the members of the emergency medical services.”

Mojapelo said a manhunt of the unknown suspects have since been launched and anyone with information who can assist the police with their investigations, should contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Daniel Mohlala on 079 875 7771 or the Crime Stop number 0860010111, the nearest police station or MySAPS App. Police investigations are continuing.
