Load-shedding hampers water supply in City of Mbombela

The municipality is working on installing generators at critical locations to ensure constant water supply during load-shedding.

The City of Mbombela (CoM) has advised its residents of eminent water shortages as a result of the rolling Eskom load-shedding. Meanwhile, Silulumanzi is also monitoring the water reservoir levels within the city.

The CoM’s spokesperson, Joseph Ngala, said in the event of power outages for the duration of four hours or more, some areas in the city will at times not get water due to low water pressure.

This includes areas like KaNyamazane, KaBokweni, White River, Rocky Drift and Hazyview. “Residents are urged to use water sparingly during this time and make arrangements by ensuring they store water in containers. We are working to put generators at critical locations to ensure sustainable water supply during power outages. Residents are also advised to reduce high water usage. The City is committed to providing suitable water and sanitation to all residents,” Ngala said.

According to a notice from the water utility, with the staggered load-shedding in stage 6, the water treatment works are affected negatively. Therefore, all reservoirs are critically low, and likely to empty out if the electricity supply is not resolved soon.

“We further appeal to residents to please save and use the available water sparingly while the relevant authorities resolve these rolling electricity outages,” read the notice.
