Safe bombed at Engen Riverside in Mbombela

A safe at Engen Riverside was bombed following a robbery by seven men, some of them were allegedly armed with assault rifles.

A group of seven men, some reportedly armed with assault rifles, stormed Engen Riverside in Mbombela, shooting at security guards and bombing the safe on the property in the early hours of this morning, June 7.

The incident allegedly took place just after 02:00.

Engen Riverside’s management confirmed the incident. It said no one had been injured during the robbery and bombing and that the police were busy investigating the scene. The management said it could not comment further.

A provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, confirmed the incident. He said the SAPS was in the process of gathering more information.
It is understood that an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen.
