Photos showing a deep cavity underneath a small hole on the R2296 near KaMagugu were distributed on social media by community members over the weekend, from Saturday June 17.

The hole seems small, but the photos show a large hollow space underground.

It is positioned on the left lane going towards KaMagugu from Mbombela, just before the intersection to Valencia.

The spokesperson for the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport, Bongani Dhlamini, said the department is aware of the issue.

“It has been barricaded and our team of engineers are attending to the matter for further investigation on the causes,” he said.
