Delays to be expected at the Lebombo Border Post due to truck backlogs

Motorists and truck drivers have been urged to remain patient and expect delays around the Komatipoort area and the Lebombo Border Post.

Motorists heading towards Komatipoort and the Lebombo Border are urged to be patient and expect delays following a backlog of trucks and holidaymakers today, June 23.

The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison’s spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, said traffic around Komatipoort and the Lebombo Border Post is moving at an extremely slow pace, and that traffic officials are on-site to try and ease congestion.

He said the traffic backlog is due to the border post systems continuously going off- and online for the past three weeks. Added to this is the fact that the school holidays have just begun, and subsequently, an increase in motorists are heading towards the border.

He said the worst of the congestion appears to be at Area Kilometre 7, which stretches back from the border for about 7km.
