Armed gang flees with cash after blowing up CIT van in Marite
In the wake of a successful CIT heist, some Marite community members looted some of the leftover cash on the scene. The R40 between Bushbuckridge and Hazyview is closed until further notice.

A cash-in-transit (CIT) van was bombed and robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash by an armed gang in Marite today, July 8.
The spokesperson for Calcutta Police Station, Sergeant Millicent Khoza, said the suspects shot at the CIT vehicle until it came to a halt and instructed the security guards to get out of the van before they blew it opened.

“They took some money and fled the scene in different cars. Some of the security guards were reported to have sustained injuries during the robbery and were rushed to the nearest hospital for medical attention,” said Khoza.
According to her, some community members looted some of the leftover cash from the crime scene, and in the process, a vehicle was torched. She also said more information regarding the robbery will be shared once they are done with their investigation.

The R40 between Hazyview and Bushbuckridge will remain closed until the police have concluded their examination of the scene. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to avoid delays.
