Body of missing White River stalwart found

Some search party members found Piet Skead’s body in a vlei near the Parkville fuel station.

Piet Skead, who went missing on Saturday July 8, was found dead in a vlei near the Parkville fuel station in White River at 08:45 this morning, July 10.

The search party’s leader, Bruce Macaulay, said police and emergency personnel were summoned. His body has since been recovered.

“We suspect he might have slipped and fallen in the vlei while walking, but we will wait for the police to do their investigation to determine his cause of death. I would like to thank everyone who assisted with the search, even though the result was not what we were expecting, as we were hoping to find him alive,” he said.

Macaulay said Skead’s family had requested privacy to mourn their loss.
