Jock Classic awaits cyclists on Sunday

Cyclists from all over will embark on either a 140km, 100km or 60km route on Sunday July 16.

The Lowveld is gearing up for another year of the Jock Classic cycle tour, which is set to take place on July 16.

The race will cover stages of 140km, 100km and 60km, with a specific starting time for each leg. The route will take cyclists on roads through iconic Lowveld towns such as Sabie and White River.

Competitors will line up at Mbombela Stadium for the 140km race, which is scheduled to start on Sunday, July 16 at 07:00. The 100km race starts at White River Crossing at 07:20, and the 60km’s starting point will be at Petena Pancakes in Sabie. All three of the races will end at Mbombela Stadium, where the prize-giving ceremony will take place.

There are different categories in which cyclists can compete, and also various cash prizes up for grabs.

H&A Toere, which is the organiser of the Jock Classic, asks that motorists be vigilant on Sunday, especially when driving along roads like the Long Tom Pass. “We are in daily contact with the traffic department,” Hendrik Wagener of H&A Toere told Lowvelder, and said they would be visible on the routes to prevent possible accidents.

Between 250 and 300 racers are expected to explore the Lowveld on their bikes.

Official entries for the 2023 Jock Classic closed July 13, but there will still be time for late entries at White River Crossing until Saturday, July 15.

The organisers promised this event will surpass any previous ones, thus cyclists can prepare themselves for a day filled with the most beautiful scenery, loads of laughs and moments they will cherish for a long time to come.
