ACS Spartan’s reaction manager and the man he allegedly shot dead were both laid to rest in Daantjie Trust in Pienaar on Sunday October 15.

Matthews Maseko (53) was gunned down and killed in Sonpark Boulevard on Wednesday morning, October 11, for his alleged affair with the wife of ACS Spartan’s reaction manager, Ouboet Mandla Makhuhleni (41).

Makhuhleni allegedly shot Maseko in front of the post office boxes at about 06:45, drove out on the R40 to Barberton, parked outside a guest lodge just outside the city and allegedly took his own life.

Maseko’s older brother, Amos, said they gave their late brother a dignified burial on Sunday as they believe he did not deserve to die the way he did. “What makes the matter worse is that we received a letter Makhuhleni had written and posted on social media before taking his own life. He planned to kill my brother and he eventually did it, and we are hoping his family will visit us at home to give us some explanation and closure on what happened,” he said.

Amos said his family knows Makhuhleni’s family had not sent him to kill anyone, but since he was part of their family, they should have shown some remorse on his behalf. “For the sake of humanity, they should have come and comforted us.”

Lowvelder has seen the letter posted by Makhuhleni.

Makhuhleni was buried on Sunday. The burial was attended by a large gathering of family, friends and colleagues from ACS Spartan. ACS Spartan’s John Meintjes said everyone who had worked with him is having a tough time processing what happened, and they miss him terribly.

“His burial on Sunday helped a lot of us feel like there was some sort of closure,” he said.

The Makhuhleni family was unavailable for comment.
