Hit-and-run trial for death of Mbombela woman postponed to 2024

The trial against Johan Louwrens, who is accused of the death of Mbombela woman Letisia Niemann, has been postponed.

The further trial of the man accused of the 2019 death of Lowveld businesswoman Letisia Niemann has been postponed to January.

Johan Louwrens, who is accused of being the driver in the hit-and-run incident that ultimately led to Niemann’s death on September 28, 2019, appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Friday November 24, where the matter was postponed to January 19 for further trial.

Lowvelder previously reported that the tragedy had occurred outside Mustangs – The Dancing Place at about 23:00 that night.

Letisia and her husband, Eben, had lived on the same premises as their company, Quality Sandblasting and Powder Coating, right next to Mustangs. The couple had been walking home from the bar that evening when she was hit by the bakkie. The vehicle sped off after the incident.

Louwrens handed himself over to the police two days later.
