Lebombo Border records 28 000 people crossing to Moz in a single day this December

The Lebombo Border Post has recorded its highest number of people travelling out of the country into Mozambique this festive season.

This is according to the Border Management Authority’s commissioner and CEO, Mike Masiapato. In an interview with the SABC, Masiapato claimed that about 28 000 people were administered at the border on Saturday December 23.

“We actually logged the highest number of people we had to administrate in a day, and that was 28 000. So all in all, we have facilitated about 350 000 out of Lebombo. At Beitbridge, which is our second top in terms of land ports, we’ve administrated about 300 000 individuals into the Zimbabwean side on average. On a daily basis, we’re looking at about 17 000 per day. And of course, at our top airport, OR Tambo International, we’re now sitting at over 400 000. So, everything is going according to plan.”

Masiapato also added that the agency is ready for all the people who will be travelling back into the country in the beginning of 2024 as part of their third leg strategy.

“We have put all measures in place and we will ensure that all the people coming into the country have proper documentation. We will work closely with all agencies on the ground, especially on the borderline, to ensure that everything is in order,” he said.
