PHOTOS: Sparki Festival at Hoërskool Bergvlam ignites true Vlammie spirit

The Grade Eights of Hoërskool Bergvlam made their debut at the school with a series of songs and dances at the recent Sparki Festival, held in front of family and friends of the new learners.

Hoërskool Bergvlam hosted its Sparki Festival on Monday night, January 22, both to introduce and welcome the Grade Eights to the school and to have them experience what it means to be a true Vlammie.

Set out as a proper festival with food stalls by all the various sports teams, Bergvlam’s Grade Eights were divided up into five groups, each being given a different colour in line with the school’s values: respect (yellow), integrity (red), responsibility (green), ubuntu (purple) and pride (blue).

Each of the groups also represented the elements, and then a mash-up of songs accompanied with dances were performed based on those different elements. Each stellar performance was cheered on by an audience of proud parents, grandparents, siblings and friends.

The entire production was put together by Esmari Grobler and Renaldi le Roux. Grobler wrote last year’s production, too.

Mandy Barnard, the school’s public relations officer, said the Grade Eights would go on to write a Sparki test, which includes general knowledge about the school, before being inducted as a fully fledged Vlammies.
