Six accused in murder of former City of Mbombela councillor appear in court

The bail application of six accused of the murder of the former City of Mbombela councillor is expected to be heard in the Nelspruit Magistrate's Court today, February 7.

Six people are expected to appear today, January 7, in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court in connection with the murder of the former City of Mbombela councillor and former ANC member, Mandla Mamba.

Mamba was gunned down in Barberton in the early hours of July 2 last year. Mpumalanga National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa, said the six suspects appeared in court last Wednesday, January 31, but the matter was postponed to today for a formal bail application.

The matter was originally being heard in the Barberton Magistrate’s Court. On January 16, while the six suspects were in court, 54-year-old Robert Bhasobha Mazubuko was shot outside the court while three others were assaulted. The police are still investigating the murder of Mazubuko and the attempted murder of the three other victims.

It is unknown what the motive behind the shooting and assaults was.
