SAWS issues level 4 warning for disruptive rain for Mbombela

While a level 4 warning has been issued for Mbombela this Wednesday, March 13, a level 6 warning for disruptive rain has been issued for the Nkomazi area.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has predicted disruptive rains for parts of Mpumalanga, including Mbombela, Barberton, Bushbuckridge and Sabie, and has issued a level 4 warning for this Wednesday, March 13.

It also issued a level 6 warning for disruptive rain for the Nkomazi area.

SAWS said the moderate tropical storm Filipo will likely cause scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers expected to result in the flooding of roads and settlements as well as damage to infrastructure.

With the disruptive rain, a major disruption in traffic is also expected due to roads being flooded or closed, as well as the possibility of damage to roads and bridges and the formation of sinkholes and potholes.

The SAWS has urged people to stay indoors where possible, and to avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams where the water runs above your ankles.

The service cautioned people to abandon their vehicles and climb to higher ground should they become trapped by water.
