Two killed in separate road accidents around Hazyview

Two drivers were declared dead on these accident scenes, while two injured were rushed to hospital. Both roads have since been cleared and are open for traffic.

Two people died in separate road accidents early on this morning, March 15, while two others were injured and rushed to the nearest hospital for medical treatment.

According to the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison’s spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, the first driver died on the Sabie River Bridge just past the Phabeni Gate turn-off on the R536 in an accident involving a Toyota Etios and a minibus taxi.

“The minibus taxi collided head-on with the Toyota Etios. The driver of the car was declared dead on the scene. The minibus driver was rushed to hospital for medical treatment. It is still unclear what exactly caused the accident, but an investigation will be conducted,” Mmusi said.

He also said the driver of a Toyota Hilux died in a separate accident when he collided with a Toyota Avanza on the R40 next to the Da Gama Dam. “The driver of the Avanza was rushed to hospital for medical attention, while the other driver was declared dead on the scene.

In this case, an investigation into the cause of the accident has also been launched. While most of the debris had been cleared, motorists are advised to drive with caution when they approach the accident areas, as petrol and oil had been spilled on the road.

Mmusi sent condolences to the family of the two deceased and wished those in hospital a speedy recovery.
