Here are the Lowveld’s winners of the National Pet Day Competition

These two winners are just perfect and will melt your heart. Learn more about them here.

National Pet Day was celebrated on April 11.

Lowvelder asked pet owners to share a photo or video of their beloved pets, and published the cherished snapshots of these furry friends.

After numerous conversations and contemplation, the difficult decision was made. These two winners are the cutest, fluffiest and most lovable.

Oscar is a two-year-old cat who lives in Mbombela. His owner, Lizanne van Kasterop-Roos, says that at about 10 days old, he fell from the roof of a workshop in Secunda. Her husband and son were working at the workshop and brought the kitten home so that Lizanne could care for him.

Upon inspection, a local veterinarian said that Oscar’s chances of survival were about 10%. With the love and care of the Roos family and their Labrador, Charlie, he survived. “He stole our hearts from the first day,” says Lizanne. Being one of six rescue cats in the Roos household, he is definitely different, always on his own mission, playing with sticks and insects. Oscar, who as result of the fall walks like a ballerina and is cross-eyed, is described by the family as their special kitten.

From Lizanne’s loving description of Oscar, it is evident that scientist Dr Sanchari Dutta is correct when she found that pets have a positive impact on their owners’ mental health and overall well-being.

Ruyter is the sweetest dog and an older brother to Rigter. At the time of publishing, the paper could not get hold of his owners for comments.
