UPDATE: R555 cleared after truck and bus accident
The road was closed for about eight hours, but has now been reopened.
The R555 in Steelpoort is open for traffic after the road was closed for more than eight hours today, April 18, due to an accident between a Nnyana Shakwana Bus and an SB Trading truck.
The accident occurred between Lavino and Tubatse Residence in the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality at about 07:20 this morning.
Eight people died in the accident.

The bus was carrying miners from Mototolo Mine, while the truck was being driven towards Kutullo with commuters on the back.
SAPS members said when these two vehicles collided, the passengers on the back of the truck fell off. Some were injured and others killed.
“According to reports, the bus sideswiped the truck,” said Tidimalo Chuene, the Limpopo Department of Transport’s spokesperson.
The deceased were all passengers on the back of the truck who were going to work at a brick manufacturing company nearby.

Two more people sustained serious injuries, while six others suffered minor ones. They were all rushed to the nearby hospital.
