A murder suspect handed himself in to Nelspruit Police Station

 The man was sought in connection with the murder of a 36-year-old woman, believed to have been his wife, and the attempted murders of their two children.

A man (41) who was sought by the police in connection with a murder, as well as two counts of attempted murder, has been arrested after handing himself over to the SAPS on Saturday April 27.

According to a provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, a 36-year-old woman was stabbed to death in Mataffin on Monday April 22. During the incident, her children were also stabbed.

The suspect is believed to have been the woman’s husband.

“The children survived the ordeal. Thereafter, the suspect fled the scene and police are convinced that he went into hiding. A case of murder was and two counts of attempted murder were opened by the Mbombela police. They investigated, while intensifying the search for the suspect. Members of the public were also requested to assist with information that would lead to his arrest,” Mdhluli said.

Mdhluli said the police managed to put pressure on the suspect through their efforts, and it was not long before he deemed it necessary to hand himself over to the authorities.

The man is expected to appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Monday April 29. By the time of publishing the outcome of the court appearance were unknown.
