SARZA Lowveld hits the target with fun axe and knife throwing fundraiser

The SARZA 4x4 Adventure GPS Challenge comprised fun activities all over Mbombela, with a braai to end off the day.

Some Lowvelders enjoyed the thrill of learning how to throw axes and knives at Kokiville Homestead.

This exciting activity was one of the challenges of the first-ever Search and Rescue South Africa (SARZA) 4×4 Adventure GPS Challenge on Tuesday, September 24. It was the perfect way to enjoy Heritage Day with some family fun adventure.

The challenge comprised 12 checkpoints that included a shooting range, an old bushman cave, axe and knife throwing, and ziplining.
The day ended of with a braai evening at the Klipspringer Lodge.

The aim of the challenge was to raise funds to support SARZA Lowveld’s voluntary unit’s equipment and costs incurred during rescue operations.

SARZA Lowveld’s Etienne Roux said the rescue operations carried out by the unit members are costly and, therefore, monetary support is required so that they can succeed on each mission.

“The unit provides search-and-rescue services, transport, logistical support and radio communications in rough terrain and urban areas. Comprehensive emergency-assistance capabilities are required with members when being mobilised and deployed. We also do not want people join the unit who then cannot be supported with equipment,” he said.
