Gift United win PCM Soccer Tournament in Steelpoort

The Mighty Birds FC were the runners-up of the tournament and took home R4 000 in prize money.

A soccer tournament was held at the Mapodile Stadium in Longtill, Steelpoort on Saturday, October 26 to encourage locals to participate in sporting activities.

This sporting extravaganza was organised and sponsored by Steelpoort’s PCM Mining Supply, in partnership with the Reatlegile Foundation.

The tournament involved four local teams from Tubatse, but it was Gift United and Mighty Birds that caught the eyes of the spectators and the organisers. The two teams reached the finals, with Gift United taking the trophy home. They defeated the Mighty Birds 3-1. The winners won R10 000 prize money, while the runners-up won R4 000.

Some of the trophies handed out to the best players.

The organisers also handed soccer kits, medals and trophies to the two finalists. The player of the tournament, top goal-scorer, best goalkeeper and the referring panel were all handed medals for ensuring the tournament succeeded.

Reatlegile’s Mishack Chidi applauded PCM for investing in sports.

He expressed his pride of all the players for showing commitment and playing in good spirits.

“The way the players conducted themselves is an encouragement for the sponsors to organise these games annually. Sports unite and take the youth off the streets.”
