Lowveld Airshow wins fourth Airshow of the Year Award
This is the fourth time the show has received this award.
The Lowveld Airshow has once again soared to new heights, winning the Airshow of the Year Award for an unprecedented fourth time this past weekend.
This year’s victory was made even more special as the Lowveld Airshow celebrated an extraordinary milestone: 30 years of airshow extravaganza. For three decades, this iconic event has captivated spectators with thrilling aerial displays, unforgettable moments and a vibrant sense of community spirit.
Johan Heine, the Lowveld Airshow’s chairperson, expressed his excitement. “I am thrilled to celebrate these remarkable achievements with all of you. Winning the Airshow of the Year Award for the fourth time, along with a second-place finish, underscores the steadfast dedication and hard work of our committee. Well done to Stellenbosch for their second-place and Polokwane for their third-place finishes.”

This victory further cements the Lowveld Airshow’s legacy as the most awarded one in the country. Other notable two-time winners include Wonderboom, Tzaneen, Port Elizabeth and Stellenbosch, but none have matched the Lowveld Airshow’s exceptional record.
“This achievement truly reflects the tireless dedication and effort put forth by our team,” added Heine.
“The Lowveld Airshow has become a cornerstone event for the region, bringing together thousands of aviation enthusiasts and community members. The committee is committed to continually raising the bar, overcoming challenges such as the shortage of acrobatic pilots and certain aircraft in South Africa. Despite these hurdles, we always strive to wow the crowd with creative programming and unique experiences.”
One standout feature that sets the Lowveld Airshow apart is its spectacular fireworks display, a much-anticipated finale that has become a signature attraction for attendees.

Looking ahead, preparations are already under way for the 2025 Lowveld Airshow, scheduled for May 10. Heine shared his optimism by stating: “I am inspired by the ongoing preparations for the 2025 Airshow. With our strong track record, I’m confident it will be another spectacular event, attracting over 5 000 spectators.”
Next year’s airshow promises to be bigger and better than ever, with the exciting addition of a two-day event! The committee invites everyone to save the date and be part of this unforgettable celebration of aviation, community and entertainment.
