Mbombela CBD and surrounds without power after substation cable fault

The City of Mbombela said it officials have identified the cause of these power outages at the substation.

The Mbombela CBD and other parts of the city have been without power following a cable fault in the Anderson Street Substation on Thursday, December 5.

The spokesperson for the City of Mbombela, Joseph Ngala, said the cable fault has been located and the repairwork should soon start.

“The estimated downtime is about six to eight hours. The team will do everything possible to shorten this. We apologise for the inconvenience caused,” he said.

The power outage has affected several water pumping stations, therefore, reservoir levels are low. “Some customers could already experience low pressure or no water. We urge residents to use water sparingly.”

Most traffic lights in the CBD are off, causing major traffic delays. However, traffic officers have been deployed to major intersections to assist during the morning and lunch hours today.

Ngala urged motorists to be patient.
