Mpumalanga achieves a matric pass rate of 84.99%
The MEC for education, Cathy Dlamini, announced the National Senior Certificate exam results today, January 14.

Mpumalanga obtained an 84.99% pass rate for the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exam results, an improvement from its 77% in 2023.
The MEC for education, Cathy Dlamini, delivered a speech on the occasion of the announcement at the Banquet Hall in Steve Tshwete Local Municipality this morning, January 14.
The Class of 2024 had registered 66 936 candidates.
Out of 575 schools, Hoërskool Nelspruit was declared the overall best-performing school in the province. Dlamini said the school registered a combined total of 366 distinctions in various subjects, and all the 269 learners who wrote the exams passed.
The overall best quintile 1 school in the province was Mkolishi Secondary School in Manzana in the Chief Albert Luthuli Local Municipality, which obtained a 100% pass rate for two years in succession.
Ehlanzeni District was the overall best-performing district for 2024 with an 88.43% pass rate, followed by Gert Sibande District, Nkangala District, and Bohlabela District with 87.67%, 84.24% and 78.6% respectively.

Dlamini congratulated the schools on their momentous achievements.
“For 2024, the provincial target for the mathematics pass rate was set at 60%. The Class of 2024 has not only met this target, but exceeded it by an impressive 6.37%. These impressive results give us hope for a brighter future for all our children and for our province.”
“Today we celebrate not only the achievements of the Class of 2024, but also the collective effort that made this success possible. We owe special thanks to our teachers for their outstanding dedication and commitment,” Dlamini said.
