Five seriously injured in head-on collision on R538 outside White River
The accident involved a truck ferrying more than 10 workers and a sedan with five occupants.
Five people sustained serious injuries when their Toyota sedan collided head-on with a truck on the R538 near Nsubeni Hill outside White River on February 24.
According to the eyewitnesses, the sedan was travelling in Hazyview’s direction while the truck was driving towards White River. It is reported that the sedan was trying to overtake or swerve away from a pothole when the driver lost control and collided with the truck head-on. The vehicle rolled before stopping at the edge of a cliff.

Traffic in both directions were disrupted for more than three hours, but the road has since been cleared.
One of the passengers in the Toyota was flung through a window and a Jaws of Life was used to retrieve the driver before he was rushed to hospital. The truck driver and occupants only sustained mild injuries that were treated on the scene.
The Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison’s spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, called on motorists to drive with caution on this road following the accident this morning. He also wished a speedy recovery to those who were injured, and said an investigation has been launched to find the cause of the accident.
